Air Cushion Headbox for Paper Pulp Making Machine

The headbox is the core component of the paper machine. It achieves the uniform distribution and precise spraying of the pulp through the collaborative action of the pulp distributor, weir pool, and weir plate. Its structure includes components such as a turbulence generator and a dilution water device, which can adjust the pulp flow rate, pressure, and fiber dispersion degree, directly affecting the quantitative distribution and strength performance of the paper. It is mainly divided into three types: open type, air cushion type and hydraulic type.

    Main Type

    Based on the structure and working principle, the main types of headbox are as follows:

    Open-type headbox: The structure is simple, and pressure is stabilized by the liquid level difference. It is suitable for medium and low-speed paper machines.

    Air cushion type headbox: An air cushion is set above the weir pool, and the pulp speed is precisely and flexibly controlled by adjusting the air pressure. Its performance is superior to the open type and is widely used in medium-high speed paper machines.

    Hydraulic type headbox: It is powered by a pump pressure system and is equipped with efficient hydraulic rectifying elements (such as homogenizing rollers), which can generate high-quality turbulence and facilitate uniform dispersion of fibers. It is suitable for high-speed paper machines.

    Basic Function

    (1)Provide a uniform and stable jet of pulp throughout the entire width of the paper machine, avoiding lateral pulp flow, no directional branch flow or longitudinal streak flow;

    (2) Provide a stable lip plate with geometric dimensions meeting the requirements, which is not affected by temperature, pressure or the opening degree of the lip plate;

    (3) Form a fiber suspension with the least flocculation and the best dispersion;

    (4) Provide a control mechanism that can meet the process requirements for the distribution of the banner width, the point of slurry discharge, the spraying angle, and the spraying speed.

    (5) Provide convenient measures to keep the headbox clean and facilitate operation and maintenance.
